As a young man, Don Rich enlisted in the Marines. The experience of being in the military was a critical part of developing his work ethic which has served him well as an artist.
He was honored when he was commissioned by the Veteran’s Administration to work on public sculptures at the Fresno site. Here, he created fountains of land forms, ba-relief walls, and freestanding sculpture.
Each commission has its own signature. In the commission of “The All Wars Memorial” American history was created in a realistic style. Not all commissions require the same style, and the process can be completed with varying degrees of collaboration with the agency or person that commissions the project.
